Weekly Bytes #1
In these dev log series, I'll try to share my experiences and lessons learned while building my app business.
Welcome to the first entry in my indie dev log series. I’ll be sharing the ups, downs, and lessons learned as I try to build a sustainable indie app business from the ground up. Let’s dive into what happened this week.
🎯 Setting the Stage
This year I’ve been working part-time at my job (30h/week) to make space for indie projects. The dream is simple: publish apps, create content, and one day live off of what I build.
So far, I’ve shipped a handful of AI-powered identifier apps (plants, bugs, birds, jewelry, fish). Revenue? About €40 total. Not glamorous, but it’s a start.
Now I’m doubling down. I set up this newsletter to hold myself accountable, track progress, and maybe help others on the same path.
🛠️ Development Highlights
Started building Coin Identifier (iOS) → the next app in my identifier series.
Preparing Plant Identifier for launch on Google Play this month.
Spent time polishing app icons + listings (because ASO matters).
Reminder: even “small” apps take time when you want them polished.
📣 Marketing Moves
Finally committed to writing this newsletter (hi 👋).
Drafted my next YouTube video idea around publishing my 5th AI app.
Realized I’ve been too focused on building and not enough on sharing. That’s changing now.
🧠 Lessons Learned
Energy > money. Cutting back to part-time was the right move for me.
Publishing > perfection. My apps don’t need to be flawless to provide value.
Stacking bricks. Even €40 proves the system works. Now it’s about adding more.
🔮 What’s Next
Publish Coin Identifier on Google Play (target: mid-Sep).
Upload a new YouTube video about the process.
Keep showing up here every two weeks with updates.
Thanks for reading the first log. If you’re also building (or thinking about it), I’d love to hear what you’re working on. The early days are messy, but that’s what makes this fun.
